How Do Oilfield Chemicals Behave in Produced Water?

A new publication from DTU Offshore researchers explores how oilfield production chemicals behave when discharged into the ocean as part of produced water from oil extraction.

The figure illustrates the experimental process: oilfield chemicals are mixed in a two-phase system of oil and water. After equilibration, a water sample is extracted and analyzed using capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) to determine how the chemicals partition between the two phases.
